Individual health insurance is very difference than group health insurance. Individual insurance is medically underwritten meaning that rates are based on medical information obtained from your enrollment application. Premiums are not only affected by your medical history but also by tobacco usage. A non-smoker with the same medical history will receive a better rate than a smoker with the same medical history. Furthermore, maternity care for individual policies is an optional coverage. A subscriber may choose to add this coverage for an additional cost.
